Toxicity Mitigation
IceCold Gloves and Socks are specifically designed for applying cryotherapy to the hands, fingers, feet, toes and nail beds to reduce the effects of chemotherapy toxicity to these areas. Prevention or mitigation through application of cryotherapy is likely related to vasoconstriction through regional hypothermia. Toxicity effects can include peripheral neuropathies, skin issues and nail bed damage.
IceCold products are unique and have a high fill volume designed to provide longer lasting cooling for use during treatments.
When using IceCold Gel Gloves and Socks during chemotherapy, for an average treatment during chemotherapy of 90 mins, it is recommended that a minimum of two (2) pairs are needed, alternating between each pair. Each pair lasting approximately 30-40mins. Where a freezer is not readily available a third or fourth pair may be required depending on treatment length.
Can be used for people at risk or affected by:
- Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy
- Neuropathy in the hands and feet
- Hand Foot Syndrome
- Palmar-Plantar Erythrodysesthia
- Onchyoloysis – nail bed destruction and loss of nails
- Inflammation, pain, redness and heat
- Arthritis
- Localised Injury
- Swelling or soreness
- Oedema
- Planter Fasciitis
- Issues related to Diabetes
- Pregnancy swelling
- Menopause
80.6% of hands without cryotherapy lose some sensitivity to touch.
63.9% of feet without cryotherapy lose some sensitivity to touch.
Overall incidence of 44% for taxane-induced nail changes with some series reporting it as 89% with 3 treatment cycles.
